Caring For Your Christmas Tree

For A Happy And Safe Holiday!

From Your Friends At Schriemer's

How to keep a tree fresh:

Make a fresh cut on the base by sawing off about one inch, just before bringing the tree indoors. From that point on, keep the butt immersed in water continuously. On the first day inside, the tree will take up the most water. Unless your stand has a very large container, you will need to fill it up at least twice! A seal will form within a couple of hours if water runs out, preventing further water uptake. This is the single biggest cause of premature drying, so keep it especially well watered at the start!

How to keep a tree safe:

Keep it fresh; a vibrant green tree is a safe tree. Use only CSA approved electrical decorations which are in good condition. Studies have shown that Christmas trees with their butts immersed in water will remain safe from ignition by a point source of heat for at least three weeks if installed reasonably fresh.

Tree Preserve:

Like it's name suggests, this is a highly effective Christmas tree preservative which enhances the beauty of your natural Christmas tree. One cup in every gallon of water in your tree stand speeds absorption and prevents drying, and needles stay green and fresh. You can also use it year-round to feed potted plants and preserve cut flowers. For potted plants, mix 1 tablespoon with 8 oz. of water and add to plant soil with each watering. For cut flowers, cut off 1" of flower stem and add 1 tablespoon each time the flowers are put in fresh water.
